Focus on Form (FonF) was proposed by Long & Robinson (1998) and other SLA researchers who sought to integrate explicit language instruction into mainstream communicative language teaching. FonF embraces the principle of authentic communication and learner-centeredness favoured in communicative language teaching. FonF seeks to address language issues when students have comprehension or production problems in a meaning-based activity. In this course we will review research evidence for this claim and other theoretical positions. We will explore practical means for implementing FonF with regard to an ever increasing range of diversity and aptitude in the EFL class.
