It is one of the main aims of teaching a foreign language to equip learners with the ability to express themselves fluently in the foreign language in meaningful conversations. Recent studies show that learners do not get enough opportunities to use the English language productively and that our knowledge about e.g. the effect of teacher talk and the types of tasks on learners’ speaking skills is still limited (e.g. Klippel 2014). The present course aims to familiarize students with the foundations of teaching EFL speaking skills and to raise their awareness of its challenges. It will be problem-oriented in so far as we will try to find answers to key questions by referring back to theoretical as well as empirical texts together.

Voraussetzungen |
LPO 2003/BA: Completion of ”Introduction to TEFL”, GLS A and B. Please hand in a copy of the required document with your pre-task.
MEd 2011, MEd 2014: Successful completion of the D module as part of your BA. Please hand in a copy of the required document with your pre-task.
PLUS: Completion of a short preliminary task. The task will be sent via e-mail during the week following registration. Students are required to send their pre-tasks to frisch[at]uni-wuppertal.de by 06 April 2018.
