Kommentar |
Narrative mediation in novels can be designed in various ways. Building on the models discussed in the Introduction to Literary Studies (CI), the seminar looks at specific aspects of homodiegetic and heterodiegetic narration. Students will learn to understand and apply narratological concepts like empathy, defamiliarization, unreliability, ethos attribution and fictionality that account for novels featuring strange or even impossible narrators and hybrid forms mixing fictional and factual narrative. Analysing and interpreting novels by Martin Amis, Ian McEwan and Jaron Kobeck, we will explore the complex relationship between fictionality, narrativity, and genre.
