Trump's 2016 electoral campaign and the first months of his presidency put the limelight on the United States southern border, a terrain that has been historically unstable, highly contested, culturally productive, and characterized by changing degrees of permeability. This seminar will focus on literary representations of the border and of border experiences in genres including poetry, short stories, novels, and creative non-fiction. Our emphasis will be on the time period from the 1994 North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement to the present, but we will also discuss the border's – and border literature's – historic dimensions and place texts into their cultural, political, and economic contexts. We will familiarize ourselves with critical approaches to the texts and the vibrant field of border studies as a theoretical framework.

Please note that due to the many Thursday holidays and two conferences, we will a double sessions that will take place on a Thursday morning in May from 8 to 12 and a Friday session on June 22 from 12 to 5 pm. Please see above for details.
Since I am attending a conference in North American on April 19, our first session will take place on April 26.

Intensive Auseinandersetzung mit der von der Lehrperson benannten Primär- und Sekundärliteratur, nachgewiesen durch aktive und regelmäßige Mitarbeit in der Lehrveranstaltung und dem Übernehmen zusätzlicher Aufgaben (z. B. Moodle-Forumsbeiträge, Mitarbeit in einem Expertenteam, Kurzpräsentation) oder alternativ durch von der Lehrperson festzulegende Ersatzleistungen wie z.B. Klausur oder mündliche Prüfung. Abhängig von der Prüfungsordnung und der zu erwerbenden Anzahl der Leistungspunkte zusätzlich eine Auswahl aus den folgenden Leistungsnachweisen: Review, Exzerpt, Class Memos, Kurzpräsentation, Mitarbeit in einem Expertenteam, Lexikonartikel, wissenschaftliche Hausarbeit. |
