Update: I cannot accept any more students to my courses. If you did not get assigned to a syntax course at all, please attend the assembly on Monday, April 16 at 6pm in room O.08.29. Attendance is mandatory in order to be placed. If you want to switch courses with someone, the two of you can e-mail Mr. Matthias Naumann with your names, matriculation numbers and course details. One message is enough, but please put the other student in the carbon copy of the heading to prove (in a way) that the switch is consensual. The e-mail address is mnaumann(at)uni-wuppertal.de. You can also stop by Mr. Naumann's office hour to fill out a form and request a particular course change. He will arrange it as soon as there is someone who wants the spot you currently hold.

My courses start the first week (April 9 or 11), but I will "only" discuss things like course requirements and give you an overview of what's to come. If you want to you can come listen, but that doesn't mean your spot is safe. It is only guaranteed if Wusel currently confirms you are in my course. I always upload my lectures so that you can review them in case you are admitted late (in the second week, for example).

This seminar offers an introduction to recent developments in generative syntax. Topics to be discussed include the structure of phrases and sentences, different complementation patterns, questions, passive sentences and various other syntactic phenomena. The major aim is not only to formulate rigorous syntactic rules, but to develop an explanatory account. This means that we will also be concerned with explaining why certain constructions are ungrammatical in English and how Modern English differs from earlier stages of the language and also from other languages.

Register online (via WUSEL) during the registration period for the "Anglistik/Amerikanistik" department.
