This seminar is designed for doctoral students who wish to practise their conference presentation skills in English. The main aim of this seminar is to improve self-confidence with the English language in a conference context, therefore increasing your chances to network effectively, establish contacts and market yourself successfully. Students will work on improving their fundamental presentation skills: pace and delivery, clear and correct pronunciation, and correct intonation of voice.
However, conference participation might not always or only include a presentation, but also coffee breaks, conference dinners and other situations requiring communication skills. Therefore, the seminar will also address and practise important aspects of Small Talk including cultural awareness, professional introductions, and conversational English appropriate to the context.
