This is a seminar for BA-students only.
This class provides an introduction into the grammar of African American English. We will explore phonological, lexical and morphological, morphosyntactic and syntactic as well as semantic properties of African American English and work out the rule-based characteristics of this linguistic variety. In a second step we will compare and contrast the grammatical system of African American English to Mainstream American English and highlight relevant differences between both grammatical systems. In a final step we will take a look at the role of African American English language structure and use in education and language assessment contexts.
