This seminar will give an overview of British drama since 1945, focussing on a series of authors and texts that reflect both changes in post-war British society and new developments in drama and theatre. How are historical and political developments negotiated on stage? How have new forms such as epic theatre, the theatre of the absurd or so-called kitchen-sink drama come into being? Please buy and read Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot (1952) and Endgame (1957), John Osborne's Look Back in Anger (1956), Peter Shaffer's Amadeus (1979) and Caryl Churchill's Top Girls (1982).
