Oral communication is of pivotal importance for Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). But at the same time, the DESI-study (2007) observes a general ‘speechlessness’ in German EFL classes. Therefore, the seminar explores the status quo and relevance of speaking in the EFL classroom and on this basis focuses on suitable approaches to teaching and assessing this complex competence.
