First meeting: 15. April 2020
We strongly recommend that you attend the Introduction together with the Grundlagenseminar in the same semester, as the MAP covers topics dealt with in both classes.
Please note that if you do not come to the first meeting, you run the risk of losing your place.

This course deals with basic issues that are relevant for teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in institutional contexts. We will study approaches to foreign language teaching (FLT) and understand how aims and procedures in FLT have changed over time. Theories from second language acquisition research still inform principles of language teaching that have been widely accepted in the TEFL community. A good number of related disciplines, such as the Cognitive Sciences, provide us with insights on e.g. what goes on in our minds when we understand or produce language. Finally, we will look at recent developments in educational policy like inclusive education and digitalisation and sketch out how they affect today’s English language teaching.
We recommend that you attend this course in the same term as you attend the GLS Fachdidaktik.
Please note that if you are not present at the first meeting, you may lose your place in the course.
