Australian Culture and Society - Einzelansicht

Paying particular attention to historical background, we will explore some of the factors which have contributed to Australian society being what it is today. Topics discussed include: relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians, convicts and settlers, gender; immigration and multi-culturalism. In addition to readings, we will examine and discuss Australian identities in relation to a number of cultural forms, such as film, photographs, paintings and songs.

Registration: Via WUSEL during the official registration period.

First meeting: Please note that if you are not present at the first meeting and do not inform me (mcilwain@uni-wuppertal.de) immediately, you will lose your right to a place in the course.

Regular attendance, participation and preparation as required. Assessment will be based on class presentation and contributions, essay, and completion of homework.
