Kommentar

While the conflict-ridden relation of word and image has been a concern of writers throughout the ages, the peculiar rivalry came to the fore rather strongly in modernism. Poets tried to meet the challenge, seeking to reflect the newly emerging visual cultures of their time, and, at times, even to emulate the medial other. We will read a number of theoretical texts, before charting the field of these engagements by analyzing key poems.
