Language change is a many-faceted problem. This course is supposed to acquaint you with several of these facets, in particular concerning syntactic change, and allow participants to discuss and analyze them, mainly but not exclusively on the basis of English data. The crucial problem we will be confronted with is the question of how grammatical properties change, and if so, why they do. The notions we are going to have to deal with are those of parameters and parametric change.
Registration: Via "Elektronisches Vorlesungsverzeichnis" alias "WUSEL" during the registration period for the "Anglistik/Amerikanistik" department.
